"Uh, oh, tomorrow I have to see the orthodontist. My mom's dragging me there. What's he going to do? What should I expect?"
At your very first visit, Dr. Malerman will look at your face, your jaws, and your teeth. Probably the only "tool" that he will need to use will be a tiny dentists mouth mirror, and you know what
that is.
Once Dr. Malerman has taken a good look at you, he will be able to give you (and your parents) an
opinion as to whether:
- You have a malocclusion (bad bite) or not.
- If so, should it be treated?
- If treatment is necessary, when should treatment begin, now or in the future?
- Dr. Malerman will also be able to give you an estimate as to approximately how long you will be
in orthodontic treatment.
In other words, at that first visit, you will receive an informed opinion that orthodontists call a "tentative diagnosis". And, remember, if you don't bite Dr. Malerman, he won't bite you.
